Whistler Welcomes the Games
For the first time in Olympic history, the International Olympic Committee has bestowed the designation Host Mountain Resort upon a community - recognizing Whistler's significant role in staging and hosting the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Whistler has a unique opportunity to establish partnerships that deliver extraordinary Games and accelerate our shared vision - to be the premier mountain resort community as we move toward sustainability.
The Paralympic Games:
Whistler is extremely proud to be hosting the majority of events and Closing Ceremony of the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games on March 21. In fact 62 out of 64 medals are being awarded right here in Whistler Medals Plaza.
The Paralympic Winter Games includes 64 medal events in five sports?Alpine Skiing, Cross? Country Skiing, Biathlon, Ice Sledge Hockey and Wheelchair Curling. Wheelchair Curling and Ice Sledge Hockey will both be held in Vancouver but the remaining events will be in Whistler.
The energy and athleticism of the athletes, coupled with the majestic beauty of the landscape makes these events a must see.
